Anniversary is
a time for
reflection. The
Faculty of
Science has
come a long way
since its
establishment
back in 1939.
Over the years,
the Faculty has
expanded and
developed to
become one of
the largest
faculties in
the University.
As of 2008, we
now have over
115
professorial
staff and about
2000
undergraduate
and
postgraduate
students
studying and
working in a
lively and
intellectually
vibrant
environment.
What has
remained
unchanged is
our commitment
to academic and
research
excellence,
quality science
education and
serving the
community.
The
Platinum
Jubilee
Anniversary is
an appropriate
time to
celebrate the
achievements of
our alumni and
the Faculty as
well as looking
ahead to the
future. At this
significant
moment in time,
in addition to
our planning of
the Homecoming
Day and the
Anniversary
Dinner to
reunion and
reconnect our
alumni and
friends, the
Faculty would
like to take
this
opportunity to
further enhance
the image and
linkage of
science to our
community.
Special
lectures
entitled
“70th
Anniversary
Lecture
Series” with
a theme on
science and the
future have
been organized,
which will be
delivered by
our outstanding
alumni for the
general public.
A series of
‘Science-in-Action’
lectures with
hands-on
practice and
demonstrations
will be
presented to
students and
teachers of
secondary
schools to
further
cultivate their
interest in
science. The
Faculty also
established a
‘70th
Anniversary
Alumni Fund’
to help support
various
experiential
learning
activities,
which enables
our
undergraduate
students to
enrich their
learning
experience in
our new science
curriculum.
Only
with strong
support from
our alumni,
colleagues,
students and
friends, that
the Faculty can
be confident
that our
endeavor to
provide the
best education
for science
students,
expand the
frontier of
scientific
knowledge and
nurture leaders
of the next
generation will
continue to be
successful. The
Anniversary is
our chance to
celebrate our
past success
and look
forward to the
future. I hope
you will all
join with us on
this occasion
and make this a
memorable
event.
